At Ease is a community nursing provider specializing in in-home healthcare for veterans and War Widowers in Townsville, North Queensland.   Nursing services are provided by nursing staff and can include: 

  • Wound care
  • Helping with medication management
  • Helping to manage symptoms of medical conditions
  • Checking overall health
  • Helping after an operation or stay in a hospital
  • Helping with end of life and palliative care
  • Helping with day-to-day activities, like showering, going to the toilet and dressing
  • Helping with other tasks if there is a clinical need


 To access these services, you'll need to visit your general practitioner to get a referral to AtEase. Afterward, a community nurse will contact you to schedule an initial home visit. During this visit, the nurse will create a care plan to assess your needs and determine the best way to manage them


All veterans, war widows and widowers with a Veteran Gold Card can receive DVA-funded Community Nursing services. Some Veteran White Card holders may also be eligible for DVA‑funded Community Nursing services if they meet the criteria. If you think you could benefit from Community Nursing services, you can contact either: 

• your local doctor 

• a nurse practitioner in community services 

• a doctor in a hospital where you are receiving treatment 

• the person who will be managing your discharge from hospital. They will organise a referral to a registered DVA Community Nursing provider, who will then assess your care needs.

If you do not have a regular treating GP, please contact the team at Rosslea Medical Centre on (07) 4758 0500 and they can assist you. 


  If you are eligible to receive Community Nursing services, they are free for you.  


No. Your community nurse will work closely with your regular GP, updating them on any changes in your healthcare. You will still require regular appointments with your GP for scripts, referrals and all other healthcare.
